Residing within an environmentally sensitive wetland zone, McKeachies Run Drainage Reserve reflects the changing initiatives of our clients towards management of stormwater runoff. Situated ‘upstream’ of the Hunter River, the bio-retention basin was constructed to control the quality and quantity of stormwater flows generated by the surrounding subdivision. Although the basin principally functions as a utilitarian landscape element, it also serves as a significant public open space, as well as a new permanent habitat for a wide variety of aquatic and bird life. Our scope of work included the preparation of sub grade, amelioration of site soil, stone ripraps, concrete paths and edges, installation of play equipment, fencing and furniture and the supply and installation of a diverse range of plant material.
