Home of the historical Fenwick’s Stone Building, the Balmain project completed for Leichardt Council is located adjacent to the Darling Street Wharf. The sites significant level change from Weston Street down to the waterfront gave way to the extensive use of stairs and retaining walls over the site, and saw our scope of works include the removal of 440m3 of bedrock from around the 18th century building, shaping the stone and the reincorporation into the sites retaining walls. Additional scope of works include detailed sawn sandstone stair treads, recycled brick paving, asphalt, suspended concrete slabs, blockwork with an elevated mesh viewing area and custom precast concrete and timber seating units incorporating lighting. Our works also incorporated infrastructure elements to enable future use of the building as a café / restaurant. This ranged from the installation of grease traps and rainwater storage tanks to the construction of a service room behind the coreten screen.
